St. Cloud Go-Kart Patrol

The St. Cloud Go-Kart Patrol was organized in 1964 with 15 charter members.  Each member contributed $100 toward the purchase of the Go-Karts.  The carts were transported to parades on individual trailers, pulled by the member’s cars.  The Patrol eventually acquired a semi-trailer truck to move the carts from parade to parade.  The present unit was designed and built in 1976 to transport the carts.  The original carts were destroyed by fire in 1979.  The current carts were purchased for the 1980 parade season.

The Patrol has members ranging in age from 25 to 65 years.

The Go-Kart Patrol attended the Imperial Session at Indianapolis, Toronto, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Denver, and competes in the Midwest Motor Corps.  We have won trophies in the Obstacles Course and Precision Competition.

The Patrol participates in as least 15 parades each year in Central Minnesota and will travel up to 100-plus miles from St. Cloud to be in a parade.  Club members’ Ladies usually accompany the Patrol to parades and provide an excellent cheering section.  The purpose of the Patrol is to promote the Masonic fraternity, Shrinedom and aid to handicapped children through the Shriners Hospitals for Children and Burn Institutes.  The Patrol feels fortunate to be able to perform this service and have fun doing it.

During the off-season, the St. Cloud Go-Kart Patrol meets monthly for dinner and a short business meeting.  Special events include a Christmas party, a Valentine party, and an early spring kick-off potluck.
